The drawing lots for the FIFA World Cup 2022 was expected with a lot of impatience by football fans all around the planet. Achieved in Doha, Qatar, where the tournament will take place in upcoming November/December, it finally gave us a mix between brand new oppositions and confrontations that already happened in the past. For Africa, some teams will have fierce competitors to face up to.
After the last round of the African qualifiers that ended up this week, everybody knew the five ones who would represent the continent in Qatar in the end of the year: Ghana, Cameroon, Morocco, Tunisia and Senegal. And the duty will be a tough one for them: let us remind that in Russia in 2018, all the African teams had been kicked out of the World Cup in the first round of the group phase. A bad assessment that should not be rewritten!
Senegal fell in the A group with the host country Qatar, the Netherlands and Ecuador. Holland seems to be the toughest adversary here, but we should not neglect Ecuador, who qualified before teams like Chile and Colombia in the Latin American qualifiers.
Tunisia will be opposed to France, Denmark and the United Arab Emirates/Australia/Peru (the last qualified team will be known in June). Quite difficult to play against the world champion in title and Denmark of Christian Eriksen, considered as a very serious team in Europe.
For Ghana, the drawing lots put them in a H group with Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea, while Morocco inherited Canada, Belgium and Croatia.
At last, Cameroon will have a remake of the 2014 World Cup with a confrontation against Brazil, but also Switzerland and Serbia. Too complicated for the Lions?
