This is a premiere for PSG, and a premiere for Moroccan football player Achraf Hakimi as well. Last Wednesday in semifinal of the Champions’ League, French football club PSG qualified for their second consecutive final of the most prestigious football competition in Europe. The draw (1-1) obtained in Munich by the teammates of Ousmane Dembélé was enough after the victory (5-4) in the first leg. In a couple of weeks, Paris will defend their title against Arsenal in Budapest, Hungary.
Hakimi, who was unavailable for this second leg semifinal due to an injury, witnessed the performance achieved by his squad in a packed Allianz Arena dressed up all in red to support the locals. The enthusiasm of the Germans was dampened when Ballon d’Or Ousmane Dembélé scored in the first minutes of the game, making it 6-4 with the first leg game played last week.
The game was worthy of such a level of competition, with fewer goals than last week still, and Munich had to wait until the 94’ minute to score by their English forward Harry Kane. Not enough though. Last whistle blow, and Paris could breathe. Second consecutive final for the French club. Let us add that over the last 7 years, PSG has reached the final of the Champions’ League three times (2020, 2025, 2026).
For the Moroccan captain, who scored in the last final against Inter Milan, it is another great opportunity to grab the big ears’ Cup and make history. Very few clubs managed to play two consecutive finals in this competition. Things are not even done after that. In one month, the FIFA World Cup will be played in the United States, Canada and Mexico. As Moroccan’s captain, Achraf Hakimi will be facing up another challenge: confirming Morocco is part of the best teams in the world. The Lions of Atlas fell in semifinal against France in World Cup 2022, the first time an African country was going that far in the competition.
